Spanish Government Site Redesign

Spanish Government Site

Many government sites have the issue of presenting information in a clear, visually appealing way. My goal here was to make a site I visited recently easier to navigate and less overwhelming visually.

Original Site

The original site was very chaotic and difficult to navigate. I noticed the links to the other pages in the navigation bar did not have drop down menus. The branding colors were bold and distracting. The links to the featured articles were visually unappealing and required the reader to work to focus on the reading content. The side panel with links was overwhelming with information. All elements were competing for the user’s focus.

New Site

For the new site, I toned down the branding colors. I added a drop down menu to the navigation bar for users to find links to the information they would have to search for in the original site. I made the article links more visually appealing by following patterns users would be familiar with from other blog and news sites. I inserted the external links at the bottom of the page in a cleaner format. I also added more white space to the edges of the site for the user’s focus to be drawn to the organized content.

Reflection

This redesign was completed after my frustration attempting to navigate a Spanish Government site which was convoluted. This site caused difficulty in finding the information necessary to my desired end result. As a user, I wanted the site to be cleaner and less overwhelming with information to have to sort through before finding correct information. Redesigning this site allowed me to limit the chaos I was seeing and calmed my senses in navigating and creating a more visually appealing site.
